“What happens when you bring a storyteller and nonprofit accountant together to address financial literacy for nonprofit board members? Finance Unlocked for Nonprofits (FUN) represents a departure from existing board trainings. It expands what board members know and can do related to nonprofit finance through BINGO cards, video shorts featuring a Jet City Improv actor, and supporting informational kits. Why does it matter? Greater finance knowledge will help board members to grow their organization and protect its assets.
Through this interactive, hands-on workshop, we will work through the why, what, who, and how of nonprofit finance. We will dig deeper into two key reports – Balance Sheets and Income Statements – and then cover what board members need to know about IRS Form 990, the intersection of finance and fundraising, and oversight. Healthy finance practice can be habit-forming when people are working within their comfort zones, so we will discuss how to get your organization there. And no finance training is complete without a hearty game of BINGO!
This workshop is aimed at nonprofit board members and nonprofit staff wanting to elevate financial knowledge within their organization. Teams are strongly encouraged. Participants are encouraged to bring their own balance sheets and income statements, as well as a copy of last year’s IRS Form 990 for their organization to tie the discussion back to their organization.”
