Training information:
Canine Body Language – Dealing with fearful, reactive and aggressive behavior in dogs as well as barking lunging and leash reactivity. Topics include: appeasement and calming signals, canine stress and bite prevention. You will come away with an action plan on how to directly help you own dog as well as other dogs in your shelter. Using lecture, video, photographs and real life scenarios we can help you help the dogs in your life.
Instructor: Angela Lenz – owner, Tails-A-Wagging Doggie Daycare & Canine Obedience Center, Bellingham, WA. Using 100% positive, reward based training methods, Angela Lenz has been training dogs in Northwest Washington since opening Tails-A-Wagging in 1997. She volunteers her time with several animal welfare and rescue groups and has presented many diverse workshops on dog behavior all over the region and at the New England Federation of Humane Societies Annual Conference. Angela is passionate about animal welfare and the humane treatment and respect of all sentient beings.
Backyard/Barnyard – With the growing popularity of keeping chickens, goats and other animals normally found in more rural areas our animal control officers in urban settings are finding themselves responding to welfare and nuisance complaints involving species they may not be very familiar with. This session will give an overview of the basic needs of these animals normally found on the farm. Appropriate feed, shelter, space needs as well as common parasites, illnesses and how to recognize the animal may need veterinary care.
Instructor: Jennifer Bennett DVM, MS. Dr. Bennett is currently medical director with Seattle Animal Shelter and has worked in multiple shelter, rescue and private clinic settings including Seattle Humane, Everett Animal Shelter and Feral Cat Spay & Neuter Project. Before moving to the Seattle area Dr. Bennett worked as the medical director with Lake County Animal Care & Control in Lakeport CA.
