Washington Federation of Animal Care and Control Agencies funds spay/neuter efforts for shelters across Washington.
Woodinville, WA May 10th, 2016– Five organizations across the state of Washington will receive funds from the Washington Federation of Animal Care and Control Agencies (The Federation) this quarter to support their spay and neuter efforts. The Federation awarded a combined total of $20,000 to The Northwest Organization for Animal Help, Kittitas County Friends of Animals, Spay Neuter Your Pets of Adams County, Spokane Humane Society and Spay Neuter All Pets of Thurston County. These funds will be used for subsidizing the cost of surgery for low-income families, and many of the programs focus on free-roaming cats and pit bull type dogs: two of the highest-risk groups for euthanasia in Washington shelters.
Funds disbursed will go to assist in over 325 spays and neuters. Based on currently accepted statistics, this could save as many as 1,300 pets from facing euthanasia in 2016. This grant is issued quarterly through funds received by purchase of specialty “We Love Our Pets” license plate which are available through the Washington Department of Licensing. The maximum award amount per organization is $5,000.
The “We Love Our Pets” grant is available to current Federation members who have 501©3 status. If you are interested in supporting these efforts by purchasing a license plate, learning more about the Federation or becoming a member, please e-mail them at info@wafederation.org.
